The Missouri Southern Lions fought back twice to overcome one goal deficits to tie the East Central Tigers in their first home match of the 2014 season.
East Central (2-2-1) would strike first in the 3rd minute 1-0 as Kaitie Herrin scored off a pass from Kristiana Gonzalez-Claborn. Southern (2-1-1) would answer back in the 14th minute as freshman Hannah Bomar took a pass from senior Kelsey Haist on the left side and put the ball passed ECU goalie Taylor Lowe. The Lions would add one more goal in the first half as junior Karley Thomas scored from the top of the box on a pass from sophomore Carly Cecil in the 19th minute to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
The second half started and saw the Tigers score two goals in under a minute as Milan Galloway scored both unassisted in the 46th and 47th minutes. Senior Casey Vitale would tie the match in the 78th minute on a header from freshman Ronise Miller.
Southern out shot East Central 16-14 (8-8 shots on goal) on the day as senior goalkeeper Beth Hammonsplayed all 110:00 in the net and came up with five saves.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday September 19th as they travel to Bolivar, Missouri to take on the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. Kickoff for that match is scheduled for 4pm.
