Ceremony set to name MSSU basketball court in honor of Robert Corn

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Please mark your calendar for an unveiling of the basketball court named in honor of former men's basketball coach Robert Corn. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Earlier this year, the Alumni Association's Board of Directors and a group of volunteers launched a fundraising campaign for a scholarship in honor of Corn's 25 years of coaching at Missouri Southern.

The money raised will fund scholarships for Missouri Southern student athletes, who because of the time demands of their sport, need an additional fifth year to complete their degree. The money will also fund a scholarship for a member of the Missouri Southern pep band. Additionally, Coach Corn will have his name placed on the court inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center as permanent recognition for his winning efforts - both on and off the court.

The goal for the fundraising effort was $100,000. To date, it has raised $172,750.

The winningest head coach in Missouri Southern men's basketball history, Corn announced his retirement from coaching following the conclusion of the 2013-14 season. On July 1, he transitioned into his new role as the Director of Alumni Relations/Athletics.

There will be reserved seating for donors and committee members during the unveiling ceremony in Leggett & Platt.
