The Missouri Southern men's basketball team had four score in double-figures led by a double-double from Slim Magee and the Lions took out Missouri Western 78-60 Saturday inside the MWSU Fieldhouse.
The Lions (17-5, 11-4 MIAA) were led by Magee's 14 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, going 4-9 from the field and 6-6 from the free-throw line. He also had six blocks, one off of his career high in a single-game.Marquis Addison scored 14 points, while Jordan Talbert added 12 points and six rebounds, while Austin Wrightwent 3-6 from long range and scored ten points.
Western (9-14, 4-11 MIAA) had four score in double-figures led by 16 points from Ryan Devers. Charlie Marquardt, Cortez Colbert and Kalvin Balque scored 11 points each.
Southern scored the game's first points on a jumper from Addison and led throughout. The Lions had a six-point lead (33-27) after a layup from Talbert with 5:40 left in the first half. A pair of freebies from Magee with just under two minutes left pushed the lead to 42-32 and the Lions went into the locker room up 43-34.
Western cut the lead to two (45-43) after a layup from Devers with 15:50 left in the second half. but the Lions went on an 11-2 run to push the lead to 11 (56-45) after a layup from Cameron Cornelius with 10:54 to go. The lead was 16 (66-50) after a three from Miller with 6:53 on the clock and it was its largest, 23, after a free-throw from Greg Renfroe, gave the Lions a 75-52 lead with 3:21 to go.
The Lions shot 48 percent from the field and 57 from long range, while nailing 76 percent of their free-throws. Southern won the rebounding margin (40-36) and assisted on 12 of 27 made baskets. The Lions' bench outscored Western 24-9 in the game.
Southern will be back home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when the Lions play host to Southwest Baptist. Tip off from the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center is slated for 7:30 pm.
