MSSU women seek third straight win in Saturday clash with Central Missouri

After an exciting win that saw the Missouri Southern women's basketball team win their second straight game, the Lions will turn their attention to the only team that has yet to drop a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) game so far. The Lions will take on the University of Central Missouri on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Lions on the Prowl
MSSU enters Saturday's contest with a 5-10 overall record and an 1-5 MIAA record. On Saturday, the Lions snapped a three-game losing streak, and won their first conference win of the season. Destiny Cozart (14.9), Chasidee Owens (15.3) and Zoe Campbell (11.3) pace the Lions as the three players who average triple digit scoring in the 14 games this season. Campbell leads the team in rebounds per game (7.6) and blocks (42).

Jennies Looking for Ten Straight

The Central Missouri Jennies shut down the top offensive team (Pittsburg State) in the MIAA Wednesday night, 72-50, and enter Saturday's contest looking for their tenth straight win hold a 12-3 on the season. They also remain as the only unbeaten in the MIAA at 6-0 and they have the league's longest win streak. 








The Jennies are now on their longest winning streak since winning 16 straight in 2017-18. On the season campagin, Central Missouri is 7-0 in Warrensburg, Mo. 

Wednesday's defensive showing was the 12th time in 15 games the Jennies held an opponent to 60 points or less in a game and it was the sixth time in their last seven games UCM has grabbed at least 40 rebounds and they have won the rebounding battle in all seven games.

Three Lead the Pack

The Jennies are paced by three players that average double figures per game. Megan Skaggs is the leading scorer for the Jennies as she averages 16.3 points per game. Morgan Flemming is second on the team with 14.6 points per game whule Nija Collier had 13.5 points. Collier is the leading rebound with 8.6 rebounds per game.

The Lions finish out the road trip next Saturday (Jan. 25) when they travel to Pittsburg State.
