Late run lifts MSSU men to 77-63 win over Lincoln

The 10th-ranked Missouri Southern men's basketball team closed the game on a 28-16 run and took out Lincoln University inside Jason Gym 77-63 tonight for the team's seventh win in a row.

Southern (14-2, 7-0 MIAA) was led in scoring by Cam Martin as he poured in a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds on 7-of-11 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Elyjah Clark had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Kinzer Lambert scored 16.

Lincoln (6-9, 3-3 MIAA) was led in scoring by Joe Davis with 14 points.








Southern jumped out to a 9-0 lead after a dunk from Martin and a four-point play from Lambert, the latter coming at 17:39 in the first capped a 9-0 run to start the game for the Lions. Lincoln clawed its way back into the game, getting within one (17-16) with 10 minutes to go in the half.

The two teams traded points for much of the rest of the half with the Lions' largest lead coming at 6:18 to go after a Reggie Tharp layup made it 28-22. The Lions got a late basket from Martin as he tipped in a rebound off a missed three as time expired to give Southern a 42-38 lead at the break.

The two teams continued to trade baskets and Lincoln led briefly 49-47 with 14:12 left in the half, but the Lions got a jumper from Clark the next trip down to tie the game and start a 15-2 run, taking a 62-52 lead after a three-point play from Clark with 9:31 to go.

A layup from Lambert with 7:45 left put the Lions up 64-53, while a jumper from Parker Jennings a minute later gave the Lions their biggest lead to that point at 66-53. A pair of free throws from Martin with 1:47 to go pushed the lead to 75-60, and Southern would hold on for the victory.

Southern shot 50 percent from the field and made all 12 of its free throws. The Lions out rebounded the Blue Tigers 37-31 and had the lead for nearly 36 minutes of the game.

The Lions will be back in action this Saturday as Southern travels to Central Missouri. Tip off from the Multipurpose Building is slated for 3 pm.
