Pittsburg State head softball coach Elizabeth Economon is pleased to announce the signing of two high school seniors to national letters of intent. Emily Clark and Taylor Compton will join the Gorillas in the fall of 2017.
Clark is a 5-2, right-handed utility player from Kansas City, Mo. She attends Lee's Summit North High School and is coached by John Gage. She helped the Broncos to a conference title in 2015 while earning second-team all-conference and first-team all-region honors at catcher. She was also a first-team all-district honoree in 2014 and 2015. Clark is the daughter of Gerald and Rose Clark. She is undecided on a major at Pittsburg State.
Compton is a 5-8, right-handed pitcher and first baseman from Baxter Springs, Kan. She attends Riverton High School where she is coached by Brian Mitchell. Compton helped the Rams to a 24-2 record in 2016 on the way to a Kansas Class 3A State Championship. Compton earned a 21-2 record and 0.69 ERA in the pitching circle, while striking out 229 batters. She hit .519 with 40 RBI on the season.
She has been a three-time first-team all-state, all-area and all-conference selection at pitcher. Her sophomore season she helped the Rams to a third-place state finish and state runner-up recognition as a freshman. She was named the Kansas 3A Prep2Prep Freshman of the Year in 2014. Compton is the daughter of James and Debbie Compton. She plans to major in biology at Pittsburg State.
"We are excited to have Emily and Taylor join our program," Economon said. "They are both talented athletes with the drive to win. They will add depth and help propel the continued success of our program.
