Missouri Southern women's basketball to play at Washburn Wednesday

The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball heads to Topeka, Kansas for a Thursday night MIAA matchup with the Ichabods of Washburn University.

The Series
The Ichabods hold a 46-28 overall advantage over the Lions. The Lions are 17-19 in Joplin against Washburn and are 5-10 inside The Leggett & Platt Athletic Center, while only being 11-27 in Topeka, Kan.  The Lions snapped a four game losing streak at Lee Arena on Dec. 6, 2015 as they upset then seventh-ranked Washburn 66-62, and followed that up with a win inside Lee Arena last season 73-67 to make it two in a row against the Ichabods. The longest winning streak for the Lions was six games from Jan. 27, 1978 thru Jan. 26, 1980. The Ichabods longest winning streak is at seven, from Jan. 30, 1987 thru Feb. 12, 1990. Southern has won three of the last four meetings against Washburn, with the lone Ichabod win coming in Joplin, 64-42, on Dec. 19, 2015.

The Coaches
Missouri Southern

Ronnie Ressel is in his 15th year on the staff at Missouri Southern and his first year at the helm of the women's program. During his three years as an assistant for the women, Ressel had helped the team to a 58-30 record and a 38-22 mark in the MIAA. In 2015-16 the team saw two players earn All-MIAA status as Sharese Jones was a first-team selection, while Deb Holcomb was a third-team pick.

Washburn
Ron McHenry
 will begin his 17th season at Washburn in 2016-17 looking to improve on his impressive resume and return the Ichabods to the top of the MIAA and region. McHenry, a national champion in 2004-05, has gone 389-108 (.782) in his first 16 years, all at Washburn since 2000-01. He's 226-76 (.748) in his career in MIAA games and 198-36 (.846) coaching in Lee Arena.  McHenry has won eight MIAA titles and seven MIAA tournament titles at Washburn. He's a four-time MIAA coach of the year and a two-time region coach of the year.
