Pittsburg State University indoor track & field athletes posted nine NCAA qualifying marks Saturday (Jan. 21) on day two action of the MSSU "Southern" Invitational.
In the men's action, Derek McKnight placed second overall, tops among collegians, in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 56 feet, 8.5 inches. It was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Ian Duncan (6-9.75, PQ) and Louis Rollins (6-8.75, PQ) placed first and third, respectively, in the high jump, while Conner McGuire finished third in the pole vault (15-5, PQ).
In the women's action, Jena Black and Jasmine Smith posted a one-two finish in the shot put. Black won the discipline with a PQ throw of 48-11, while Smith tossed the iron pellet 48-9.5.
Megan Wickersham and Heather Glenn both cleared 11-9.75 in the pole vault. Wickersham finished second while Glenn placed in a tie for third place in the discipline with both vaulters exceeding the NCAA qualifying standard.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Olivia Boone, Rhema Taylor, Chandler Wilson and Nelson also garnered a PQ mark with a winning time of 3:54.53.
Sarah Jewett also placed third in the 800 meters in 2:22.38.
