MSSU 2017 football schedule released

The Missouri Southern football program has announced its 2017 schedule that features five home games at Fred G. Hughes Stadium inside the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.

The Lions will open the season at home on August 31 as Southern plays host to Fort Hays State. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm at Hughes Stadium. After another Thursday night game in week two at Missouri Western, the Lions will welcome Emporia State to Joplin for a 6 pm start on September 16 for Hall of Fame weekend.

Southern then goes to two-time defending National Champion Northwest Missouri on September 23 before coming back home on September 30 to host Nebraska-Kearney as part of Homecoming 2017. Kickoff that Saturday will be 3 pm.

The Lions then go on the road in back-to-back weeks to play at Washburn and Central Missouri before playing host to Central Oklahoma on October 21 for the annual Cancer Awareness Pink Game. Kickoff will be 3 pm against the Bronchos.

A trip to Northeastern state is on tap on October 28, and the final home game of the season will be November 4 as the Lions play host to Lindenwood for Senior Day. Kickoff is 2 pm.

The season finale will be on November 11 as Southern travels to Pittsburg State for the 2017 Miners Bowl.
