MSSU women's cross country places 27th at NCAA finals

The Missouri Southern women's cross country team placed 27th today at the 2014 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships held in Louisville, Ky. held at EP "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

On a wet and muddy course, the length of the race was shortened from a 6k race to a distance of 5.78k.

Sophomore Emily Harris  (pictured)was the top runner for the Lions, placing 97th overall, running the 5.78k course in a time of 22:47.60. Senior Dora Eastin placed 124th in a time of 23:07.90, while senior Kaitlyn Belisle placed 152nd in 23:26.80.

Sophomore Sierra Gray placed 219th in a time of 24:35.60, while Junior Dana Roberson was 220th in a time of 24:36.40. Junior Addie Mengwasser was 226th in a time of 25:00.00, while sophomore Kayla Bartelsmeyerwas 232nd in a time of 25:15.30.

Grand Valley State won the team title, placing 1-2-3 individually in the race. Hillsdale was second, followed by Minnesota-Duluth, Adams State and Augustana to round out the top five team scores.

The Central Region had two schools placing in the top eight. That means the Central region (which Southern competes in) will receive five bids to the 2015 National Championships, which will be hosted by Missouri Southern.
