Missouri Southern junior fullback Giresse Forchu has been named first-team Capital One Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.
Forchu carries a 3.86 in biology/pre-med at Missouri Southern. To be considered for the honor, a player must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, while participating in at least 50 percent of his team's games. Freshman and first-year transfers are not eligible. Forchu was also a first-team Academic All-District selection.
Forchu, a native of Forney, Texas, has helped the Lions re-write the rushing records at Missouri Southern the past two seasons. The team has broke the record in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, rushing for 3,043 yards in 2012 and 3,684 yards in 2013. The team rushed for 2,954 yards this year.
This year, Forchu led the MIAA and ranks 21st in Division II in rushing TD's with 15. That total ranks 3rd all-time in a single-season at MSSU. His 21 career rushing TD's rank him 7th all-time. A 2013 CoSIDA first-team Academic All-District selection, Forchu has been a two-time Academic All-MIAA, three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a three-time Dean's List member.
Forchu is one of three MIAA players on the first-team, joining Northwest Missouri's Eric Reimer and Fort Hays' Jesse Trent. Northeastern State's Ross Dvorak was a second-team selection. ***
