The Missouri Southern women's track and field team opened up the indoor season today as the Lions played host to the MSSU Early Bird Invite inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Melanie Bower got back in the groove after sitting out a season with a back injury and finished fifth in the pole vault with a provisional height of 11-7.75. Ashleigh McFarland was 13th in the event.
Kaylee Morgan placed second in the long jump with a provisional of 18-8, while Allie Heckemeyer was eighth and Shelby Newell and Sierra Barrett placed 10th and 16th.
Heckemeyer was fourth in the high jump with a height of 5-1.25, while Shelby Sutherland, Kylee Hulsey and Morgan placed 5th, 7th and 9th, respectively. Heckemeyer also placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 36-11, while Newell (36-10.50) was sixth and Barrett placed 10th.
Morgan placed eighth in the shot put, while Katie Skelton was ninth. Victoria Foley was fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 52-5.25, while Halee Cashiio was eighth, Allie Webb was 13th and Skelton placed 14th.
Morgan placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.31, while Emily Paullus was third with an identical time of 9.31, just milliseconds behind Morgan. Lexi Pesek was fifth, while Brittany Rose placed 14th.
Destiny Akannam was sixth in the 400m dash, while Heckemeyer and Traci Walker placed 7th and ninth, respectively. Sydney Potts was second in the 800m with a time of 2:21.69, while Hannah McMeen was eighth.
The mile relay team of Walker, Heckemeyer, Morgan and Potts placed sixth in a time of 4:14.19.
The Lions will be back in action after the Christmas Break, playing host to the MSSU Open on January 16 and 17.
