The Missouri Southern Athletic Department announces promotions for the 2018-2019 basketball season. The promotional schedule features giveaways, ticket discounts, fun theme nights for students, and opportunities for fans of all ages to enjoy basketball season here at Missouri Southern.
Kids 12 and under are admitted free to all home games and at all conference games inflatable games will be available for kids 12 and under for a $1 donation.
December 6th - The conference home opener for the Lions will be against the University of Central Oklahoma on Thursday night, Dec 6th. The women will play at 5:30 pm followed by the men at 7:30 pm. The conference home opener will also serve as PACK THE PLATT/ White Out Night! The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a White Out T-Shirt.
December 8th - On Saturday, December 8th, we hope to see everyone dressed in their best ugly sweaters as the Lions take on Northeastern State University for a 1:30 and 3:30 pm doubleheader. During half-time of the men's game will also be the annual Toy Toss where fans are able to throw stuffed animals onto the court to be donated to kids in the local Joplin area. All fans who bring a stuffed animal that day will receive a concessions vouchers for a free popcorn by showing the toy at the entrance. Roary will also be dressed in his Christmas best and will be available for pictures!
December 29th and 31st - For the women's basketball game against Tabor College (Kan.) on Dec. 29th and the men's basketball game against John Brown Univ. (Ark.) on Dec. 31st all general admission tickets purchased at the entrance will be discounted to $5.
January 10th - The Lions will host a Halloween in January Night against the University of Central Missouri for a doubleheader at 5:30 and 7:30 pm. Wear your best Halloween costume for a chance to win a great prize! The game is also sponsored by Joplin Floor Designs
January 12th - Southwest Baptist University will be visiting Missouri Southern for our Patriotic doubleheader at 1:30 and 3:30 pm! The first 500 fans will receive free beanies (winter hats). We will also be honoring all First Responders with free tickets and each additional family member will only be $5.
January 23rd - On Wednesday, January 23rd dress your 90s best and cheer on the women's and men's teams as they take on Washburn University at 5:30 and 7:30 pm. The first 500 fans will receive a fanny pack.
January 26th - The Lions host Emporia State University for our Greatest Showman/ Circus doubleheader at 1:30 and 3:30 pm. During the men's game will be our annual Diaper Dash featuring area babies in a crawling race for prizes! The doubleheader will be sponsored by Great Southern Bank.
February 7th - University of Nebraska-Kearney will be in town for our doubleheader at 5:30 and 7:30 pm. We will be honoring Roary with his birthday party and will be giving away 500 Roary birthday figurines. There will also be a special mascot dance. The birthday party will feature area mascots and members of Roary's Cub Club will be invited to eat cake during the game.
February 9th - On Saturday, February 9th, the Lions will host Fort Hays State University in a doubleheader at 1:30 and 3:30 pm for our annual Pink Game. The women's team will wear special pink jerseys to be auctioned off throughout the day. Our women's athletic teams will be selling pink t-shirts for $10 with all proceeds going to Hope 4 You. Any person currently fighting cancer or is a cancer survivor will be admitted to the game for free by indicating it at the entrance. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a pink drawstring backpack sponsored by Mercy Hospital.
February 19th - For our finale the Lions host rival Pittsburg State and will be honoring Coach Boschee for winning Coach of the Year during the 2017-18 basketball season. The doubleheader will have 5:30 women's and 7:30 pm men's start times. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Coach Boschee Bobblehead and the first 500 students in the MOSO Mane-iacs section will receive a rival t-shirt. Our finale will also serve as Military Appreciation Night. All those retired, former or currently serving individuals will be admitted to the games for free by indicating it at the entrance. All additional family members will be admitted for only $5 each. The Lion Co-Op will be in attendance with us as well. The Lion Co-Op provides food and personal hygiene items to members of the MSSU Lion family in a discreet, safe environment. We invite you to bring an item to donate and each person who brings an item(s) will receive a voucher for free popcorn during the game. Our final home games of the season will be sponsored by The Joplin Globe.
For tickets fans may go to www.mssulions.com/tickets. Tickets for doubleheaders are $15 for reserved seats and $10 for general admission. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 people or more and may contact the tickets office at 417-625-9820 for more information. All seating inside the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center is chair back seating.
