A former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder has signed with the Cincinnati Reds, but it was not Carlo Beltran.
The signing of former Cardinal outfielder/second baseman Skip Schumaker, reported as close to happening last week, is now official:
“The first thing I wanted to do going through free agency for the first time – it happened so quick – I wanted to go with a team that had a really good chance to win,” he said. “The Reds have been that way, one of the best teams in the National League the last three or four years. I knew that division really well. Walt Jocketty drafted me in 2001 and gave me a chance to play professional baseball.
“It was just a really good fit for me and my family. We're really excited about the opportunity.”
Schumaker played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013.
