The Yankees are the still the favorite to sign Cardinals free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran, but those in the know are saying that the Kansas City Royals are a strong dark horse and are willing to overpay to get Beltran.
If they are able to land Beltran, who started his career with the Royals, they reportedly will play him quite a few games at designated hitter. To cover some of the extra costs, they are likely to deal Billy Butler.
