The Missouri Southern State University track and field teams started their weekends off with strong marks as the throwers posted five provisional qualifying marks and three event wins at the Central Missouri Invite. In addition, the distance medley relays competed in the first day if the Northwest Open.
In the women's weight throw, senior Kirsten Leisinger finished second out of 24 competitors with a provisional qualifying mark of 17.30 meters.
Senior Alexandra Rodriguez finished in third place with a toss of 16.65 meters while senior Payton Roberts finished fifth with a throw of 15.82 meters.
Roberts was the top shot put thrower for the Lions with a second place finish. She had a throw of 14.45 meters to register a provisional mark. Rodriguez finished in sixth place with a throw of 12.07 meters.
On the men's side, senior Rajindra Campbell won the shot put with a provisional qualifying mark of 17.94 meters while junior Josh Fulmer finished fourth with a throw of 16.15 meters. Campbells mark is MSSU's sixth best mark ever in the event and fifth in the nation.
Freshman Isaac Johnston finished sixth with a throw of 15.78 meters while freshman Mason Clark (14.50m) and junior Elijah Smith (13.14m) also competed.
Fulmer posted another provisional mark in the weight throw as he won the event with a throw of 19.25 meters, the tenth best throw in school history as he narrowly knocked Bryan Burn's 2018 mark of 19.24 meters from the top ten. He now has the tenth best throw in the nation.
Senior Travis Peterson finished second with a provisional mark of 18.61 meters while freshman Peyton Barton finished in fifth with a throw of 17.19 meters. Johnston (15.29m) finished eighth, freshman Mason Clark (14.65m) finished ninth and freshman Evan Wise (14.19m) finished in 12th.
At the Northwest Open, MSSU's distance medley relay of Mady Gepford, Ashlynn Vanatter, Janna Hautala and Kelie Henderson won the four-team race with a time of 12:32.69.
The men's team of Nathan Painter, Jon Johnson, Gabe McClain and Ryan Riddle posted a provisional qualifying mark of 9:56.42 to post the top mark in the nation.
