KSDK Sports Plus Podcast- Will Cardinals pull trigger on Nolan Arenado deal?

The prospect of having the best infield St. Louis has seen since the days of Ken Boyer, Dick Groat, Julian Javier and Bill White has Cardinal fans salivating as rumors continue that the Cardinals are working on a possible deal with Colorado to land all-star Gold Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies.

Early rumors have mentioned a four-for-one deal including Dakota Hudson, Carlos Martinez, Tyler O'Neill and the minor league pitcher obtained in the Jose Martinez trade, while a printed report has the Cards trying to put Matt Carpenter into the deal.

A drawback that has been cited is that while Arenado recently signed an eight-year contract with Colorado, it has an opt-out clause that can be exercised after the 2021 season, which would give the Cardinals only two years of control.

My guess is that would not make a difference since St. Louis has managed to convince other star players, including Paul Goldschmidt, Matt Holliday and Mark McGwire to stay.

And if not, go for it anyway. You have two years with an infield of Arenado, Paul DeJong, Kolten Wong and Goldschmidt, with Tommy Edmon as a backup. The defense improves and Goldschmidt has some protection in the lineup. Since I am expecting increased production from Goldschmidt and DeJong this year, the Cardinals would be scoring a lot more runs and hopefully get shut out a few less times.

The accompanying KSDK Sports Plus podcast begins with St. Louis Blues talk then segues into the Cardinals at about the 11:30 mark.
