The departure of Alex Smith, who led the Chiefs into the playoffs, to make room for second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes was a key to Kansas City's surge to the AFC championship game last year and to this year's Super Bowl.
Mahomes has credited Smith with helping him learn a great deal during his rookie season.
In this KMBC video, Mahomes says he and Smith have continued to text each other and Smith texted him after the Chiefs beat the Titans in the AFC Championship.
