Missouri Southern sophomore distance runner Gidieon Kimutai has been named the MIAA Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Kimutai, a native of Eldioet, Kenya, won a highly-competitive 5k at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic.
He defeated his nearest opponent by three seconds with a time of 14:03.08, an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark. The time currently sits atop the MIAA and third-best in Division II.
Kimutai and the Lions will be off for the Christmas break and will be back in action on January 17 as Southern travels to the University of Arkansas.
