The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field teams will open up the 2018 outdoor season tomorrow and Saturday at the University of Texas at Arlington Bobby Lane Invitational.
The Southern women finished the indoor season with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships, while the men were 16th. Emily Presleyhas won the last two outdoor pole vault National Championships.
In all, the Lions had seven All-American performances and a National Champion. Presley was the champion in the pole vault for the third time in her career (two outdoor, one indoor), while Bryan Burns (weight throw and shot put) and Allie Heckemeyer (pentathlon and triple jump) won multiple All-American honors. Heckemeyer was also named the NCAA's Elite 90 award winner for the women at the event. This award is given to the individual competing at the National Championships with the top GPA. Heckemeyer has won the award twice now.
The men are currently in seventh place in the national Program of the Year standings.
The meet will begin at 9:30 am on Friday morning with the women's and men's hammer throw. The women's and men's javelin will begin at 2 pm.
The remainder of the meet will begin on Saturday morning at 9:30 am with the women's long jump. Running events begin at 11 am on Saturday.
