Southern athletes on leader board at PSU indoor track meet

Missouri Southern senior Kaylee Morgan was second and sophomore Allie Heckemeyer was fifth, while men's senior Jayce Thomas is in first after day one of the 2015 PSU Boo Rogers Multis held at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg.

Morgan finished with a provisional total of 3,425 points in her first multi event of the season. The total is just 24 points off of her school record in the event. She was 461 points behind the event winner Emilyn Dearman who posted an automatic qualifying mark of 3,886. Heckemeyer placed fifth with 3,185 points.

Morgan won the long jump with a distance of 5.45m, while placing second in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.06. She was fifth in the high jump, second in the shot put and ninth in the 800m. Heckemeyer placed third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.

Thomas is in first after day one of the event, garnering 2,959 points, 110 points in front of second-place Tanner McNutt of Pittsburg State.

Thomas won the long jump with a distance of 6.75m, as well as the high jump with a height of 2.08m. He was fourth in the shot put and fifth in the 60m dash. He will run the hurdles, the 1000m and compete in the pole vault in the final day of competition tomorrow morning.
