Missouri Southern senior guard Taevaunn Prince has been named the MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Prince, a native of Toronto, Canada, helped the Lions to a 2-0 start this past week to open up MIAA play. In his first game against Central Oklahoma, Prince scored 17 points and added nine rebounds in helping to lift the Lions over the Bronchos . In that game, UCO had got to within six points, but baskets from Prince with 3:12 and 1:22 to go in the game helped push the Southern lead back to double-digits.
Against Northeastern State, Prince scored 37 points and added ten rebounds in keying the Lions eight point win. He went 11-14 from the field in the game, as well as 14-15 from the free throw line. For the week, Prince averaged 27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 34 minutes per game, while shooting 64 percent from the field and 91 percent from the free-throw line.
The Lions play host to Northwest Missouri this Wednesday night. Tip off from Robert Corn Court inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center is slated for 7:30 pm.
