MSSU Athletic Department announces December promotions

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern Athletic Department is proud to announce many promotions that will highlight a busy month of December for MSSU Basketball inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

December 5th:
Come and help Roary the Lion celebrate his birthday at a MSSU basketball doubleheader on Saturday, December 5th. The women's game starts at 1:00 pm and the men's game will tipoff at approximately 3:00 pm. Members of Roary's Cub Club will receive slices of birthday cake, as well as a Roary coloring book. Also, Roary has invited some of his friends including Louie the Lightning Bug from Empire Electric, Blue from the Joplin Blasters and Eddie the Eagle from Joplin High School to help him celebrate the occasion! December 9th:
On December 9th, MSSU Athletics will be having a "White Out," where the first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a free white t-shirt to wear during the game against the Northwest Missouri Bearcats

Also, MSSU Athletics, in partnership with the Toys for Tots organization, is doing a "Toy Toss" at the game. During halftime of the men's game, fans will be invited to throw new or gently used stuffed animals onto the basketball court where they will then be collected and distributed to local children in the area. Many teams at both the collegiate and professional level have done this, including Arkansas - Fort Smith, who's Toy Toss has become an annual tradition and an example can be seen here. Additionally, the Missouri Southern baseball team will be receiving their MIAA Championship Rings, which commemorate their MIAA regular season and tournament championships from 2015.

December 16th:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and no one loves the holidays more than Roary the Lion! In fact, Roary will be dressed up as Santa at the game and available for pictures in front of a green-screened winter wonderland background. Photos are immediately printed off at the picture booth for fans. Roary will be available for pictures shortly after gates open at 4:00 pm until right before the women's game tips off at 5:30 pm.

December 19th:
Grab your lightsabers and jump in your X-Wings because December 19th is Star Wars Day at MSSU Basketball! Star Wars Day will feature a new and/or used toy drive for Kaveman's Kids, who are a kids Christmas charity made up of volunteers of the 501st Rebel Legion and Mando Mercs. The doubleheader, which has the women tipping off at 1:00 pm and the men at 3:00 pm, will feature Star Wars elements throughout, including music, sound effects, videos, concession items, and themed contests including a Storm Trooper dance off, trivia, and a "Jar Jar Binks or Celebrity Quote?" game. Any fan who dresses in a Star Wars costume can receive $5 tickets in the General Admission section. You're not going to want to miss this day, and may the force be with you!
