Missouri Southern men's track and field coach Bryan Schiding is making another appearance on the international coaching scene as he is coaching a former athlete at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in China.
Schiding is coaching a former student-athlete of his, Tyrone Smith, who was a long jumper for him when Schiding coached at Missouri S&T. Smith, a Bermuda native, is on his country's national team and currently holds the Bermuda national record in the long jump at 8.22 meters.
Entering his seventh year at Southern and third as head coach, Schiding has been working with Smith for 12 years as his coach. Smith is a two-time Olympian, competing in the 2008 an 2012 games and he was a finalist in the games in London in 2012.
Smith entered into the finals of the event in Beijing with the tenth-best jump (8.03m) and finished in tenth place with a leap of 7.79 meters in the finals.
