MSSU women's track picks up three wins

The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up three wins in the final day of the MSSU Open on Mercy Track inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center today.

Shelby Newell started things off with a win in the triple jump, leaping to a distance of 37-05.25. Amber Whitefinished second in the event with a distance of 37-01.75, while Allie Heckemeyer was fourth and Mahogany Jones was eighth.

Melanie Bower won the pole vault with a height of 11-05.75, while Ashleigh McFarland placed third in the event with an identical height.

White won the 400m dash in a time of 57.65, while Heckemeyer was sixth, Kaylee Morgan placed 12th andDestiny Akannam was 13th.

Katie Skelton and Halee Cashiio placed 12th and 13th in the shot put, while Kylee Hulsey and Morgan placed fourth in the high jump. Heckemeyer and Shelby Sutherland placed ninth and tenth, respectively.

Kaitlyn Belisle was third in the mile run with a time of 5:15.45, while Sierra Wells and Cora Butcher-Spellmanplaced 14th and 18th. Sydney Potts and Hannah McMeen placed fourth and sixth in the 600 yard run, while Kinda Emberton and Dora Eastin placed second and fourth in the 800m. Kelly Jo Roberts placed 17th in the event.

Emily Harris was third in the 3k in a time of 10:03.32, while Sierra Gray was fifth. Addie Mengwasser was seventh, while Dana Roberson and Shelby Werner placed eighth and 16th, respectively.

The mile relay team of White, Potts, Akannam and Heckemeyer placed second, while the team of Eastin, Emily Harris, Roberson and Emberton placed fourth.

The Lions will be back in action next weekend taking part in the UCM invite in Warrensburg.
