MSSU women's golf places 10th at NSU Classic

Tahlequah, Okla. -- The Misosuri Southern women's golf team opened up the 2019 season with a tenth-place finish today at the 21st Annual NSU Golf Classic hosted by Northeastern State on Cherokee Springs Golf Course.

The Lions had a pair of individuals tie for 17th as Kylie Carnes and Maggie Moore both shot a two-day total of 156. Carnes shot a 73 in day one and an 83 in day two, while Moore improved six strokes from day one to day two (81-75).

Kenzie Kirkhart shot an 84 on day one and an 81 on day two to finish at 165, while Hannah Torres shot an 84 each day (168).








The Lions shot 645 as a team to finish in tenth. Rogers State shot a 609 to win the team title, followed by Henderson State, Oklahoma Christian, Harding and Northeastern State to round out the top five. Southwestern Oklahoma was seventh, followed by Northwest Missouri, Southern Nazarene, Southern, Southern Arkansas, Fort Hays State, Newman and Southwest Baptist.

The Lions will be back in action on September 24-25 as Southern competes in the lone MIAA points event of the fall at the Lopers MIAA Preview. The event is hosted by Nebraska-Kearney at Awari Dunes Golf Club.
