(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri Southern football team led 21-0 at the half and scored 17 fourth-quarter points to secure a 38-14 win on the road at Lincoln tonight, the first win in the Jeff Sims era.

Southern (1-1, 1-1 MIAA) got a stellar performance off the bench from Sean Kelly as the senior rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns on five attempts, including an 89-yard run for paydirt as he became the first Lions' quarterback since Brayden Scott in 2017 to rush for 100 yards in a game.

Charles West had 19 carries for 107 yards, while Dalton James had 14 carries for 72 yards and a score, as well as a two-point conversion. Jacob Park started and went 12-21 for 200 yards and a touchdown through the air, while Bryan Boyd Jr. caught two passes for 74 yards. Brailon Mouton had one catch, but it was a big one as it went for a 17-yard touchdown reception.

Defensively, the Lions had Malachi Broadnax and Colton Winder with eight tackles each in the game. Loren Young and Levi Marlay had a sack each in the game. A week after running for 251 yards against Washburn, the Lions held Lincoln running back Hosea Franklin to just 118 and no scores.

Paul Wolff was 3-for-3 in field goal attempts on the night and 3-for-3 in extra point attempts.

Lincoln (0-2) got 118 yards from Franklin, while Tori Hicks caught two touchdown passes from Chancellor Johnson.

Wolff started the scoring for the Lions as he made back-to-back field goals from 22 and 27 yards to give the Lions a 6-0 lead with 13:45 left in the second quarter. James added his touchdown and two-point conversion to put the score at 14-0 Lions with eight minutes to go.

Park hit Mouton with 2:51 left in the half and the Lions took a 21-0 lead going into the break.

Lincoln got back into the game with a pair of touchdown passes from Johnson to Hicks in the third quarter to get within a score, but that was all they would record.

The Lions added a field goal from Wolf to start the fourth, this time from 35 and Kelly's two rushing scores to put the game away.

Southern had 322 rushing yards in the game and 200 passing yards for 522 in the game. It is the ninth time in a row the Lions have won against Lincoln.

The Lions will be back in action next week as Southern plays host to Northwest Missouri. Kickoff from Fred G. Hughes Stadium is slated for 6 pm.
