MSSU women's cross country finishes 16th at Romeoville, Illinois meet

Romeoville, Ill. -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team placed 16th today as the Lions competed at the Lewis University Conference Crossover in Romeoville, Ill.

Ashlee Kuykendall paced the Lions as the freshman finished 34th individually with a time of 22:35.2 over the 5k course. Sierra Wells placed 84th with a time of 23:25.1, while Christian Provence was 115th in a time of 23:49.9.

Sarah Usher finished 121st with a time of 23:53.2, while Danielle Prince was 136th in a time of 24:00.3. Shelby Werner was 190th in a time of 24:42.2, and Gabriel Hillplaced 198th with a time of 24:42.2. Mady Gepford finished in a time of 24:59.00, while Abbi Rogers finished in a time of 25:01.80.

Julianna Determan finished in a time of 25:19.3, while Layne Karhoff crossed the finish line in a time of 26:04.9. Sara Lin finished in a time of 26:27.5.

The women's race featured 359 runners and 34 teams. The Lions were 16th overall as Cal Baptist took home the team title, followed by Grand Valley State, Alaska-Anchorage, Walsh and Hillsdale to round out the top five team scores.

Southern will be back in action in two weeks as the Lions will travel to Warrensburg to compete in the 2017 MIAA Cross Country Championships.
