Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team nearly pulled out the first set, but dropped a straight-set match at 20th ranked Central Missouri this afternoon. Individual set scores were 23-25, 18-25 and 17-25.
The Lions (9-11, 2-5 MIAA) were led by Alicia Pickett with 12 kills and a .333 attack average. Pickett added five blocks, as well. Mikayla Monk had eight kills and hit .381, while Janelle Brehm had a team-high 11 digs and Whitney Harrison added ten digs of her own. Morgan Nash dished out 24 assists and added nine digs, while Teryn Scott had nine digs, as well.
The Jennies (15-4, 6-1 MIAA) were led by Aubree Bell's 15 kills.
Set one saw three tied scores and two lead changes. Southern jumped out to a 7-3 lead and led again 11-10, before the Jennies tied it up at 11. The Lions led again 13-12, but a kill from Central Missouri's Kasey Hohlen, put the Jennies up on top 14-13 and they wouldn't look back.
The Jennies broke a 3-3 tie early on in the second set and led from there on out. The third set saw two ties and one lead change.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend as Southern travels to Emporia State on Friday and Washburn on Saturday.
