MSSU soccer to play Washburn, Emporia State this weekend

Joplin, Mo. - After securing its first win of the season, the Southern soccer team returns home for Alumni Weekend as they take on Washburn University on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 pm and Emporia State on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 pm inside Hal Bodon Field.

The Lions stand at 1-6-2, 1-2 after sealing their first victory of season in a 1-0 shutout victory over Northwest Missouri State University last Sunday. Karissa Serna put MSSU in front with the first goal of her career as she became the fifth player on the team to provide a score this season.

WU (5-4-1, 1-2) comes into Friday night's game on a two-game losing streak after dropping both games at home over the weekend. However, the Ichabods have been better on the road accumulating a 2-0-1 record, including two shutouts.

ESU (4-4-2, 0-2-1) enters Sundays contest on a five-game winless streak with three losses and two ties to its credit. Despite the Hornets' latest struggles, all four of their wins have come away from home.
