The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to announce the signing of veteran catcher A. J. Pierzynski, who was released earlier this month by the Boston Red Sox.
Pierzynski has been the catcher on a world championship team in Chicago in 2005 with the White Sox.
Pierzynski will replace George Kottaras, who will be released. Kottaras was signed shortly after Yadier Molina suffered an injury which will keep him out at least until September.
