(From Missouri Southern Athletics)Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball program split a conference double header against Lincoln on Tuesday Mar. 14th at Optimist Field in Jefferson City.
The Lions (17-6, 3-1 MIAA) would get home runs by Leighton Withers and Josie Tofpi with Emily Perry picking up an RBI as Bailey Lacy struck out nine in six innings of relief in game one.
Lincoln (4-14, 1-3 MIAA) got all of their runs in the first inning as Jordan Galliher picking up the win.
The Blue Tigers would get on the board quickly as a leadoff single hit off the Lions starting pitcher in the leg and a double scored the leadoff hitter, Lincoln would add four runs in the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. In the second inning a Withers homer made it 4-1 and in the third a Tofpi homer cut the lead down to 4-2. Neither team would score again until the sixth as a Perry double to right center scored Adrianna Young for the final score of the game.
Game two had Young and Katie Gray each having two RBIs with Perry, Tofpi and Gray each having two hits in the game. Natalie Bates picked up the win with seven strikeouts in five innings with Kara Amos collecting four strikeouts in two innings.
Southern got two runs in the second, four runs in the third and one run in the fourth inning to own a commanding 7-0 lead. The Blue Tigers would scored two in the fifth and one more in the sixth with neither team able to get a run in the seventh for the 7-3 final score.
The Lions will be hosting the Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament this weekend with double headers against Sioux Falls and Concordia - St. Paul while also playing Winona State and Northern State. Southern will play USF on Friday at 2:00 and 4:00pm approximately, Winona State at 12:00pm and Northern State at 4:00pm approximately on Saturday before a double header against Concordia - St. Paul on Sunday at 1:30pm and 3:30pm to end the weekend with every game scheduled to be played at the Pat Lipira Softball Complex.
