Hays, Kan. -- Dave Prost and Joe Paulino both homered and Seth Mesey looked strong on the mound as the Missouri Southern baseball team completed the sweep of Fort Hays State, winning the series finale 9-4 today.

Alec Alvarez, Tyler Sutherland and Danny Biggs had two hits each with Biggs driving in three and scoring once. Max Hogan had an RBI and a run scored, while Alavarez did the same. Mike Million scored a run, as well.

Mesey started and went seven and a third, striking out six and walking just two, while allowing three earned runs to move to 3-3 on the season. Christian Goshen and Dan Hawk threw in relief.

FHSU (9-33, 2-27 MIAA) got two hits from Ty Reddington, while Ben Ramberg started and went five and two thirds. Ryan Ruder got the loss in relief to move to 2-2 on the season.

Hays led 2-0 after two, but the Lions scored seven runs in the sixth inning. With a runner on and two outs in the inning, Hogan doubled home Biggs and Alvarez singled home Hogan to tie the game. After Alvarez stole second, Sutherland drove him in with a single to take a 3-2 lead. Back-to-back walks to Million and Paulino scored Sutherland and Biggs unloaded the bases with a bases-clearing double to make the score 7-2.

Paulino and Prost both homered in the eighth for the Lions to make it 9-2, and the Tigers added two late runs.

The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday night as Southern plays host to Pittsburg State in a mid-week MIAA game. That game will take place at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin and will have a 6 pm first-pitch.
