The 6th-ranked men's program is the highest ranked men's team at the championships and is joined by No. 7 ranked Augustana and No. 11 ranked Northwest Missouri.

The Lions are the defending Regional Champs and are coming off of a second-straight MIAA Championship that saw sophomore Gidieon Kimutai repeat as the individual champion. Kimutai has won all four events he has entered this season. Northwest Missouri was second to the Lions at the MIAA Championships, while Augustana won the NSIC Title.

On the women's side, No. 5 ranked University of Mary and No. 7 ranked Augustana will be the only two ranked teams in the race. Mary is the three-time defending champs at this race and recently won the NSIC title, as well. The Lions are ranked 7th in the latest NCAA Central Region poll and had two All-MIAA performers in Kelie Henderson and Julianna Determan where the Lions finished third at the MIAA Championships.

The top three teams in each gender, as well as the top three individuals not on a qualifying team will automatically qualify for the National Championships which will be held on November 23 in Sacramento, Calif.
